Concerned with the treatment elephants receive at some other tourist sites in Thailand, the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary was set up to create a safer and more ethical environment for these amazing creatures. Located approximately 60 km from Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, the sanctuary provides a good home and proper care for the animals. Visitors here are not allowed to ride the elephants, instead they are able to spend quality time meeting and learning about their behavior and gain some insight into their history. Guests also have the opportunity to play, feed and bathe with the elephants before posing for photos together with their big new friends.
